Transport chairs fold down compactly to fit into any car or closet. Note: transport chairs are pushed by a companion only; the seated user cannot self propel in a transport wheelchair.

Manual Wheelchairs - Manual Wheelchairs are defined by their two large wheels in the back, where a user can self propel using hand-rims. They come in 5 general categories to suite your needs:

Where Can I Get A Free wheelchair?

Great question! Free wheelchairs are a little hard to come by, you can always ask your local church or temple if they have any donated wheelchairs. Of course, you can try and get a free wheelchair via Medicare, Medicaid, or your Insurance. Most people avoid used wheelchairs because of hygiene reasons as we don’t know who used the wheelchair beforehand. Also, these days you can purchase a brand new wheelchair for under $150.00 and shipping is FREE!

What Should I Look for when buying a wheelchair?

  • Chair weight capacity - Most wheelchairs will carry a weight of up to 250 lbs. If you weigh over 250 lbs you will need a heavy-duty wheelchair that has a wider seat with a higher weight capacity
  • Chair Width - Is the wheelchair seat wide enough for comfortable sitting (measuring the width of your bum is a great idea) Most wheelchairs come in three-seat sizes: Narrow 16”, Medium 18” and Wide 20”+
  • Home - Measure your narrowest doorway to make sure the overall width of your wheelchair will fit through easily. The standard doorway in the USA is 36”, the standard wheelchairs’ over-all width is 26” however many doorways, especially bathroom doors can be narrower than 36”
  • Lifestyle - If you will be taking the wheelchair outside the home and into a car make sure your wheelchair is light enough to lift into a car. Here are our lightweight wheelchairs.
  • Armrests - Removable armrests are super helpful if you need easier access in and out of your chair.
